Why it is different

Neutral cut wiring, without the neutral cut blackout

A DMX run needs a data cable chained to every single controller — the hard part on a long ceiling, and the first thing to fail. The neutral cut method removes that cable, but it re-syncs by cutting the supply, so the display goes dark for a few seconds each time. Our XTAL Type works exactly that way and drops into any neutral cut installation you already have. Our AC Sync goes one step further — the same cable-free wiring, but it never has to go dark at all.

Every board leaves the factory carrying the same set of over fifty animations, running one after another in full 24-bit colour. There is no software to install, no SD card to write and no app to pair. Power the set and the show starts.

Commissioning

Setting the line number

Every controller has to know which line of the matrix it drives. It is set with the single button on the board — no computer, no app, no software and no dip switches. The pixels on that line become the display, so you can set a whole ceiling standing under it.

  1. Hold the button for about 1 secondThe line stops the animation and switches to setting mode, showing the number it currently holds.
  2. Press once for every step upEach short press adds one. Past the last line it rolls back around to 1, so you can never get stuck.
  3. Save it — two waysHold the button for about 2 seconds, or simply stop pressing and wait 5 seconds. Either one writes the number into the board's memory, where it stays through every power cut.
  4. Watch for the white confirmationThe lit pixels turn solid white the moment the number is stored. The board then leaves setting mode and starts the animation on its own.
Reading the number: lines 1 to 50

Count the lit pixels — that count is the line number. To save you counting one at a time, the colour changes every 10 pixels, so you read whole blocks and then the remainder. On a 50-pixel line that is exactly five blocks:

So a line showing two complete blocks and three more pixels is 10 + 10 + 3 = line 23. Nothing is ever counted past ten.

Reading the number: lines 51 and above

A 50-pixel line cannot light 51 pixels, so past 50 the count starts again from one — and the unlit part of the line glows dim white to tell you so. Dim white behind the colours means add 50 to whatever you counted.

One lit pixel on a dark line is line 1. One lit pixel on a dim white line is line 51. That single difference is all an installer has to remember, and it lets a 50-pixel line address 100 controllers. A 100-pixel line runs eight colour blocks before repeating and addresses up to 200 the same way.

How many controllers ship

A matrix is written pixels per line × number of lines. You receive one controller per line, so the second number is the quantity in the box — a 50 × 60 matrix ships 60 controllers, a 100 × 80 ships 80. One order of a variant is the complete set for that matrix, not a single board. Select your grade and matrix size above.

Before you order
  1. Controller boards only. LED pixels, SMPS and wiring are not included.
  2. AC Sync: keep every board on one mains phase. It reads the mains cycle, so boards fed from different phases of a three-phase supply cannot stay in step.
  3. Use one SMPS make across the whole set. Different makes power up at different moments and the lines start out of step. This matters for both grades, and most of all for XTAL Type, whose timing begins at power-up.
  4. The 50+ animations are fixed. They are loaded before dispatch and run in sequence. You cannot add your own — the board has no port for loading new ones.

Frequently asked questions
How do I set the line number on each board?Hold the button about 1 second to enter setting mode. Press once for each step up. Then either hold the button about 2 seconds or stop pressing for 5 seconds — both save it, and the lit pixels turn white to confirm. The number survives power cuts.
How do I read the line number off the pixels?Count the lit pixels. The colour changes every 10 pixels — red for 1 to 10, green 11 to 20, blue 21 to 30, yellow 31 to 40, cyan 41 to 50 — so you count whole blocks and add the remainder. If the rest of the line glows dim white, add 50: red on a dim white line is 51 to 60, green 61 to 70, and so on to 100.
Which pixel LEDs does it support?WS2812, WS2812B and UCS1903 — all 5 V addressable pixels. The same board runs all three with no setting to change, so it works with the strings you already stock.
What is a pixel LED neutral cut controller?A controller for addressable pixel LED displays that keeps many lines of pixels running the same animation without a data cable between them. The traditional neutral cut method uses a master relay to cut the mains supply so every board restarts together. Our XTAL Type works that way, and our AC Sync goes further — holding the lines together from the mains waveform with no reset at all.
Do I need a data cable between controllers?No. Neither grade uses one. AC Sync takes its timing from the 220 V mains the boards are already connected to; XTAL Type holds its own timing from power-up. That is what makes long road-ceiling runs practical compared with DMX.
Does the board need a 220 V connection?Only the AC Sync grade. It takes 220 V on the board so it can read the mains cycle it shares with every other controller. The XTAL Type has no mains connection and runs from your 5 V supply alone.
How many controllers do I need?One per line. A 50 × 60 matrix is 50 pixels on each of 60 lines, so it needs 60 controllers. The matrix size you select sets the quantity automatically — one order is the complete set.
What is the difference between XTAL Type and AC Sync?How long the lines stay in step, and whether the board takes mains. XTAL Type runs from 5 V only and holds for up to 3 hours, then needs the supply switched off and on — which an existing neutral cut master does by itself. AC Sync takes 220 V on the board and holds for 24 hours with no reset and no blackout. Animations, sizes and pixel output are otherwise identical.
Can I use it with my existing neutral cut master?Yes. The XTAL Type is built for exactly that — the master's reset is what brings the lines back together, so you keep the wiring you already have.
Can I load my own animations?No. Over 50 animations are loaded before dispatch and run in sequence in 24-bit colour. The board has no port for loading new ones, and none can be removed.
Will it work on a three-phase supply?For AC Sync, every controller must sit on the same phase — boards fed from different phases read different mains cycles and cannot stay in step. Plan the distribution so the whole display is on one phase.
Are the LED pixels and power supply included?No. The controller boards only. LED pixels, the SMPS and all wiring are bought separately. Use one make and model of SMPS across the whole installation so every board powers up at the same moment.
How many pixels can one controller drive?50 or 100 WS2812, WS2812B or UCS1903 pixels, depending on the matrix size chosen.
