LEDs & Spacing — How Many LEDs In Each Size?

Every Koshi Thoran uses a 5-inch gap between LEDs (along the height). The gap between lines is your choice — 1/2 feet (half-foot) for the densest look, or 1 feet for a lighter, more economical setup. Sizes are listed in feet (Height × Width). The counts below are for the half-foot option; with the 1 feet gap the number of lines (and the total LED count) is halved:

• LEDs per line (height): about 2.5 LEDs per foot (5-inch gap) — e.g. 4 ft = 10 LEDs, 10 ft = 25 LEDs, 20 ft = 50 LEDs. (1 bunch = 20 ft = 50 LEDs.)
• Number of lines (width): 2 lines per foot (half-foot line gap) — e.g. 5 ft = 10 lines, 20 ft = 40 lines, 40 ft = 80 lines.
• Total LEDs = LEDs per line × number of lines.

• WS2811 original copper-wire pixel LEDs — Small PCB (11 mm) type with a 5-inch gap between each LED for even, full coverage. We stock two kinds of pixel LED — Small PCB and Big PCB — and this Thoran is built with the genuine Small PCB 11 mm copper-wire LED.
• Tinned-copper signal wire — not aluminium. The cheap silver-coloured wire many sellers use is aluminium. We use tinned copper, which costs more but solders perfectly with clean, carbon-free joints — so the data signal stays reliable.
• 1.5 mm original branded copper power wire for safe, stable current.
• Power injection on big setups: for anything over 20 ft we add extra SMPS at multiple points so the voltage never drops — every LED stays uniformly bright from end to end.
• HD controller: full 24-bit colour with smooth colour transitions and a high frame rate for crisp, fluid animations.

*Covers manufacturing defects only. Not covered: physical damage, water damage, wrong SMPS connection (reversing the + and − terminals), connecting LEDs directly to 220V AC mains, or exposing the SMPS/controller to rain. Always protect the SMPS and controller from rain — the LEDs themselves are waterproof.

With proper handling, your Thoran setup easily lasts more than 4 years. A few simple precautions keep it performing season after season:

• Dry before storing: after each use, make sure the setup is fully dry before packing it away.
• Pack it properly: store it neatly packed so that weather and moisture don't make the wire stiff or brittle over time.
• Hang and remove gently: put it up and take it down smoothly — never push or pull forcefully, as too much force can break the solder joints inside.
• Easy to repair: if a wire ever breaks or the SMPS fails, it can be replaced with a genuine component at the correct voltage — so your setup keeps going for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many LEDs are in my size / what is the gap?
LEDs are spaced 5 inches apart (along the height) and lines are half a foot (6 inches) apart (along the width). LEDs per line ≈ height in feet × 2.5; number of lines = width in feet × 2; total LEDs = the two multiplied. Example: 10 × 40 ft ≈ 25 LEDs × 80 lines ≈ 2,000 LEDs. See the LEDs & Spacing table above.

Can I control it from my phone?
